Cider Mishap

It’s been almost 2 weeks since I put the ciders recipes into the fermentor.   They both were fermenting away fine when a ‘bad apple’ smell started to develop from the fermentation chamber.  I immediately thought that it could be a very bad mess as it was still fruit fly season.  Everything was still bubbling so I couldn’t imagine the issue.  I was brewing in 2 days so this needed dealt with.  I put it off a day and opened the fermentation chamber Saturday.

Apparently there is a leak in the blowoff tube connection.

I cleaned this mess up with some bleach-water and tightened the fittings.  Apparently cider bubbles a lot too and the fermentors were at capacity with little head room.  Oh well…next time will stick with a smaller batch size.
